Jurgen Klopp has spoken of Liverpool's love of the Champions League as European football returns to Anfield.
The Reds take on Danish side FC Midtjylland at Anfield on Tuesday night having started their Group D campaign with a winning 1-0 start last week against Ajax in Amsterdam.
It will be Liverpool's first European game on home soil since the dramatic extra-time to Atletico Madrid in March which loosened the Reds' grip on the European crown they won in the Spanish capital nine months earlier.
Speaking to the press on Monday ahead of the clash with the Danes, Klopp reflected on Liverpool exit, the strange nature of the last sixteen tie against Diego Simeone's side and said his men are looking forward to seeing how far they can go in this season's competition.
"It should not happen again", Klopp said when asked about missing out on the semi-finals and final of the European Cup last season.
"We played a really good game in Madrid, lost 1-0 but were in it.
"Super game at home and lost, sounds crazy. What more can you do?
"Performance-wise, not a problem. It was a strange time, last game before lockdown. Not an example for how we should or shouldn't do it. We love the Champions League.
"It's Europe, it's Champions League, it's Anfield.
"The competition we love. We will see how far we can go.
"No guarantees but opportunities, so let's give it a proper try."
Reds goalkeeper Alisson Becker - who missed the Atletico tie through injury - also spoke to the press and said the Reds were focused on gaining enough points to qualify for the knock-out stages.
"We know our quality and we have big goals," he said.
"We have to focus on the next challenge.
"Group stages you think points but we just prepare as best we can to get the points.
"[No fans] will never be the same. We miss them a lot on European nights at Anfield.
"We will miss that atmosphere.
"We are going in the Premier League, so now for the Champions League the same.
"We feel their energy from their own homes."
Klopp confirmed Liverpool will still be without Joel Matip, Naby Keita and Thiago Alcantara for the clash with the Danes on Tuesday night (8pm).
