Jurgen Klopp on Liverpool's 'proper threat' and European Cup absence

Jurgen Klopp praised “proper threat” Divock Origi as he reiterated Liverpool's Champions League triumph last season belongs in the past.

Origi forced an own goal from Grant Hanley and later scored a header as the Reds opened their Premier League campaign with a 4-1 win over Norwich City at Anfield on Friday.

The Belgian, who signed a new contract last month, was impressive on the left wing with Sadio Mane considered ready only for the bench having returned to full training on Monday.

“I thought Div did exceptionally well,” said Klopp. “He had two or three decisions that were not good, he lost the ball here and there, but until then he was brilliant and was a proper threat all the time.

“We are still early in the season and some mistakes that happen won't happen later in the season.”

Klopp was also quizzed on why the European Cup wasn't paraded before the game after Liverpool claimed the trophy for a sixth time with victory over Tottenham Hotspur in June.

“Nobody told me I had to,” he said. “Is that what you do here? I touched the European Cup on the matchday. Then the day after. And since then, not.

“No reason for it. I know how it feels and the people know how it looks.

“If somebody would have expected that, somebody should have told me, and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have done it because we are now in the new season.

“Enough celebrations, nobody has to congratulate me any more. Everybody is still doing it, but I'm really fine with all the things.

“Now let's play the new season.”
