Jurgen Klopp on Liverpool Champions League draw: 'Crazy' seedings set up Group of Death

Jurgen Klopp believes the Champions League draw will place Liverpool into a Group of Death regardless given the strength of competition this season.

The European champions, who beat Tottenham to win a sixth Champions League title in Madrid in June, will learn their group-stage opponents on Thursday when the draw is made in Monaco at 5pm.

As holders and top seeds, the Reds will be in Pot 1 with Europa League winners Chelsea and domestic champions Manchester City, Juventus, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Zenit St Petersburg.

It means runners-up Tottenham are in Pot 2 alongside Madrid clubs Real and Atletico, German giants Borussia Dortmund, and last season's semi-finalists Ajax.

The strength of Pots 3 and 4 sets up a possible Group of Death for Liverpool which includes Atletico, Inter Milan and Galatasaray.

"We haven’t really thought about the Champions League, but at one point someone told me a little bit about the groups and what could happen and I don’t think there was ever a stronger Pot 2," said Klopp.

"It is just crazy. They should all be in Pot 1, but there is not enough space there.

"I don’t think there was ever a stronger Pot 3. If people really think about this kind of Super League, then you don’t need it. That’s it. Then Pot 4 you can get RB Leipzig - wow! The groups will be incredible."
