Jurgen Klopp offers Fabinho selection hint for Newcastle trip to Liverpool after 'not cool Brazil flight'

Jurgen Klopp has hinted that Fabinho is likely to retain his place for Liverpool against Newcastle, despite only returning from international late this week.

Fabinho has established himself as an important figure in the Liverpool midfield having started 24 of the last 29 games in the engine room for Klopp's European champions.

He has been able to win his place back in the Brazil squad thanks to his early season form after missing out on the Copa America where Tite's side were victorious on home soil.

Fabinho played less than half an hour his national side on Wednesday as they were beaten 1-0 by Peru in a repeat of that final in the summer.

And having only returned to Melwood late this week, Klopp might be tempted to freshen things up in his midfield ahead of the visit from the Magpies.

However, the Liverpool manager has been delighted with the former Monaco star's adjustment since the turn of the year and suggested he is likely to keep his place.

Klopp said: "He is very important, thank God we have options as well and didn't have to use them too often because Fabinho is in the position, not injured, and in the best way to get rhythm after a difficult start.

"I didn't think it was a difficult start but maybe the public did sometimes. Since then it is perfect. When you think a player like him is not starting regularly for Brazil then what a midfield they must have.

"He is fine, he didn't play too much for Brazil and the flight was not too cool, but if nothing happens it should be possible for him to make start number 26 in 30 or something like that."

Liverpool kick off the return of Premier League football against Steve Bruce's side and can go five points clear at the top ahead of Norwich's meeting with Manchester City at Carrow Road at 5.30pm.
