Jurgen Klopp names trio who can replace Fabinho at centre-back for Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp has named three Liverpool players he believes can step up to the plate in the absence of Fabinho.

Brazilian midfielder Fabinho, who has been filling in at centre-back, was injured in the Reds' 2-0 victory over Midtjylland in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Klopp admitted the injury was the "last thing" he needed after Liverpool recently lost Virgil van Dijk to an ACL injury, which could keep him out for up to nine months.

But the German is trying to remain optimistic in the face of Liverpool's growing injury problems, and has identified three young players he believes to be good enough to help manage the strain: Nat Phillips, Rhys Williams and Billy Koumetio.

Klopp said: "Rhys Williams did really well – that was really good.

"He was commanding, he was chatty – it was a really good game from him.

"The only problem we have now is that there are four days until West Ham, and every day you will make a story about him and he'll have to deal with that as well.

"He is a talent, he is 19. Two Champions League appearances and he's won both.

"Promising. But we have Nat Phillips – he's a centre-back. Billy [Koumetio] – he will train too."
