Jurgen Klopp maps out future plans as he confirms how long he intends to stay at Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has mapped out his future career by setting a timescale on how long he intends to remain at Anfield.

The 53-year-old, who has followed up last year’s Champions League success with the UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup and now Premier League title this season, has been in charge of the Reds since October 2015.

Klopp penned a new six-year deal at the end of his first season on Merseyside and after agreeing a further extension back in December 2019 to commit himself until 2024, he sees fulfilling his current contract as a natural milestone.

Given all that he has achieved – including ending the club’s longest-ever drought to steer them to their first League Championship in 30 years – the former Borussia Dortmund coach has earned the right to shape his own destiny.

When asked if he'll return to Germany, Klopp told SWR Sport : “Definitely to live, after my career. Most likely even to Mainz.”

On how long he'll remain at Anfield, he added: "Four years in Liverpool."

By that point he would have spent almost nine years in charge of the Reds, and he claims he would like to “[d]o nothing for a year" after that.

Klopp admits that after that he could be open to options when it comes to the possibility of a new project – something that many in his home country have hinted at being the Germany national team job.

He said he will do: “What I want. Perhaps a club, a team, or nothing.

“But in five years the world can look very different again.”
