Jurgen Klopp makes title admission after 'really big' Liverpool win at Wolves

Jurgen Klopp says “legend” Divock Origi may have fired Liverpool closer to the title - if the Reds can keep delivering this sort of performance.

Origi replaced captain Jordan Henderson in the final quarter of a hard-fought 1-0 win at Molineux against Bruno Lage’s side on Saturday afternoon.

The Reds struggled to create many clear-cut chances and were denied by either Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa or some superb defending when they did.

As the game ticked into the final seconds, Origi swivelled on Mohamed Salah’s low cross before converting past Sa.

It was the latest of a long list of important Origi goals that have come late in the game for the Reds and Klopp was delighted with how his team kept plugging away.

Asked if the result was the sort that wins teams titles, Klopp admitted: “If you do it 38 times, yes, if you do it once, no.

“It is really important and it feels really big. It was a really difficult game. The wind makes football very difficult, especially for the dominant team.

“We missed many chances and had to defend the counter-attacks of Wolves.

“In these difficult circumstances, I liked the game we played.

“The start was not brilliant but when we found it out it worked really good apart from the finishing.

“We had to keep going and yes, Divock Origi, the legend, came on and finished it off for us.”
