Jurgen Klopp makes Rhian Brewster declaration with youngster in contention to make dream Liverpool debut

Teenage striker Rhian Brewster is in contention to make a dream Liverpool debut in Tuesday night's Champions League semi-final with Barcelona as Jurgen Klopp announced: “He's ready.”

The highly-rated 19-year-old frontman is set to be named on the bench for the second leg at Anfield after Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino were both ruled out .

Asked if Brewster would be in the squad, Klopp said: “Yes, there is a big chance. It’s nearly sure. It’s guaranteed.”

The England youth international, who won the Golden Boot en route to lifting the Under-17 World Cup back in 2017, has battled back to fitness after 14 months out following ankle and knee surgery.

He played in two competitive games for Liverpool Under-23s last month and has continued to impress Klopp during training sessions at Melwood.

Brewster has previously been named in one matchday squad for the first-team having been an unused substitute when Crystal Palace visited Anfield in April 2017.

“He’s ready,” Klopp insisted.

“The situations are always like this. In an ideal world, in a season you always have much more players than you can involve in a squad.

“Rhian has now arrived with us after being heavily injured. Day by day, he has got better and better. He has been in outstanding shape for the last three or four weeks but the other players were there as well.”

Klopp is convinced that the former Chelsea youngster has a big future at Anfield.

"Next season he will be playing 100% and he knows that. I have told him already," Klopp added.

"It’s just good so now it’s really nice in a difficult situation that we can give him that spot in the squad and have him there to bring on as a striker. When you’re on the bench, you are an option to play."
