Jurgen Klopp makes promise to Rhian Brewster after youngster stars in pre-season

Jurgen Klopp has assured Rhian Brewster that he will have first-team opportunities next season after the young forward gave an impressive account of himself during Liverpool's pre-season tour.

Brewster scored twice against Tranmere and also found the back of the net against Bradford and Dortmund, fully taking advantage of the absence of the likes of Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Bobby Firmino to impress Klopp.

According to the Metro Klopp has "promised" Brewster that he will get minutes on the pitch next season, with the forward determined to make an impression.

Having initially started his youth career at Chelsea , Brewster moved to Liverpool's academy in 2014, and has since made a name for himself as one of the Reds' brightest young prospects.

He has also represented England from U16 to U18 level, and scored an impressive 20 goals in 23 appearances for England U17.

His development was abruptly stopped last year, however, when he sprained an ankle and suffered ligament damage during an U23 match against Manchester City , and he was ruled out for a number of months.

Speaking about Brewster, Klopp said: "I love the boy, he is a fantastic player. Why should I play it down?

"Rhian Brewster is a top striker, he is a top talent and I have told him already that he has an important role this year- but how important depends on him."

Liverpool have been linked with a whole host of attacking options this summer, such as Nicolas Pepe of Lille and a potential return for ex-player Philippe Coutinho, yet so far they have only made one signing during the transfer window, with that being 17-year-old centre-back Sepp van den Berg from Dutch side PEC Zwolle.

Brewster could be in action again when the Reds take on Napoli in Edinburgh on Saturday, followed by Lyon in Geneva four days later.
