Jurgen Klopp makes Premier League title admission after latest Liverpool defeat

Jurgen Klopp has intimated Liverpool are not interested in the Premier League title fight at present after another Anfield disappointment.

The Reds lost their second home top-flight game in succession when they were beaten 1-0 by Brighton and Hove Albion on Wednesday evening.

Steven Alzate’s 56th-minute strike was sufficient with Liverpool, who had just one shot on target, having now gone almost six hours without a goal on their own turf.

Klopp’s side have dropped to fourth place and are now seven points behind leaders Manchester City, who have a game in hand and visit Anfield on Sunday.

And the Reds boss has stated his team are now only concentrated on addressing a run of form that has seen them take just two points from their last four home games.

“I’m manager of Liverpool and you always ask – as we were champions last year – and I have to say ‘oh my God, we want to be champions, yes we want it’,” said Klopp.

“But you need the games for it and you need the performances for it. And we don’t have them. That’s the truth as well.

“We have to fight for other things. We fight for three points.

“It’s not decided yet who will get the three points on Sunday. We have to play better and we will try to as well. Then we will see.

“These gaps are not interesting at the moment because they are the result of the results we have had already.

“All we can influence now are the next games, and that’s what we will try to do.

“Tonight, it wasn’t enough. We saw that and know that. We have to change that.”
