Jurgen Klopp makes Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies decision as Liverpool prepare for Man City

Jurgen Klopp admits he is unlikely to start both Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies when Manchester City visit on Sunday.

Davies and Kabak arrived on transfer deadline day to significantly boost a central defensive area that has been beset with injuries all season at Anfield.

Both players are fit and available to make their Liverpool bows after Kabak's international clearance came through earlier this week.

Joe Gomez, Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip - the three centre-halves Klopp started the season with - are all unlikely to feature again this term and the Reds boss has been forced to field the likes of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho at the back for large spells of the campaign.

The inexperienced duo of Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams have also made 19 appearances between them, but the arrival of Kabak and Davies, from Schalke and Preston respectively, means Klopp has options to choose from at the back.

The Liverpool manager, though, says the game against City is not the ideal scenario to give both defenders their debuts.

Asked if he would be naming the pair as his 13th different defensive partnership this season, Klopp said: "No. If I don't have to, then no.

"Central midfield is not Hendo's favourite position, it is Fabinho's favourite position.

"Everything would help, a lot of things happened in the last few weeks and we tried to sort it. Sometimes we sort it and sometimes not.

"But now, of course, we have different options and that is good.

"It is the best news we could get and now we have to make sure the new boys get all the information they need.

"Because in another positions it is 'come on, try and we will see if we can adapt to you.'

"But in a defensive position, the things we do are really clear.

"It is about holding the line, it is about dropping off at the right moment, a lot of things that all teams do differently.

"Yes, we will see how quickly we can do that. [Friday] is an important session for that as well and then we will see what we will make of it."

Davies joined from Preston for an initial fee of £500,000 on Monday before Turkey international Kabak signed on loan for the rest of the season with Liverpool holding the option of making it permanent for £18million later this year.
