Jurgen Klopp is "full of trust and faith" in Nathaniel Phillips as the centre-half is handed a rare start at Brighton.
The 23-year-old played at the heart of defence as Liverpool saw off West Ham earlier this season.
He will partner makeshift defender Fabinho as he makes just his second Premier League start.
Klopp confessed that he does try and seek continuity with his defensive line but the nature of the circumstances make that difficult.
He said: "Again (another centre-half pairing). Thats it. They did really well against West Ham and Nat is a super boy.
"I don't like to change the last line constantly but on the other hand he has to have an opportunity.
"I'm full of faith and trust in him and he'll give his everything.
Takumi Minamino is also handed a rare outing from the start as he benefits from a knock picked up by Curtis Jones.
"You need fresh legs," Klopp contined.
"Curtis yesterday told me he felt something and he couldn't train but is on the bench.
"So it was clear we needed another midfielder so I thought I'd bring Takumi in."
The German has regularly bemoaned the workload put on his players as the fixtures come thick and fast.
Liverpool are playing their third game in seven days and will host Ajax on Merseyside in just over 72 hours time.
Sadio Mane is handed a rest and is a notable omission with the Senegalese star among the subs.
They travel to the south coast where they are aiming to pick up three points against the lowly Seagulls, although Klopp has claimed they are far better than their league position suggests.
The German saw his side lose in midweek as they produced a lacklustre display against Italian side Atalanta in the Champions League.
Last weekend though they comfortably saw off Leicester 3-0 at Anfield as they made a mockery of their notable absentee list.
Liverpool can go top with even a point at the Amex Stadium, at least for 24 hours with Tottenham playing Chelsea on Sunday.
