Jurgen Klopp makes 'disappointing' Ibrahima Konate admission and offers Liverpool transfer update

Jurgen Klopp has admitted he is not expecting a busy end to the transfer window for Liverpool.

While Ibrahima Konate is the Reds’ only arrival so far this summer, signing in a £36m deal from RB Leipzig, reigning Premier League Champions Man City signed Jack Grealish in an English record £100m and are now in talks to bring in Cristiano Ronaldo.

Meanwhile, Chelsea spent a club-record £97.5m to re-sign Romelu Lukaku and continue to be linked with Jules Kounde and Saul Niguez, and Manchester United parted with a reported £107m to acquire Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane.

Yet while well aware that Liverpool’ s title-rivals have strengthened their squads this summer, the Reds boss reiterated his faith in his own side ahead of Saturday’s clash with Chelsea when offering a transfer update.

“Do I expect a busy four days for us? Not really to be honest but you never know,” Klopp told reporters. “That’s how it is. The options I think didn’t get worse for some teams, that is clear.

“Chelsea have brought Lukaku in which doesn’t make them worse obviously. But in the end, there are so many different reasons and ways to win a football game. It’s not all about bringing in new players.

“It’s a little bit disappointing I always have to mention it but we brought in Ibou Konate. He wasn’t a bargain or whatever, he cost money as well.

“All of these offensive, attacking players other clubs are signing as obviously what they thought they needed and they had the resources to do it. That is the situation.

“We will not take that as any kind of excuse in any kind of game. We will just go for it with all we have. We have other things we can build on. We are together for a while already. In this specific case we play at home which must be an advantage.

“I have really no time to look other clubs. Of course I see the news when they sign a player but I really have no time to think how can they line up, what will they do. When we play them, we will think about that. I think that is enough.”
