Jurgen Klopp makes Curtis Jones prediction and asks pointed question after Liverpool beat Everton

Jurgen Klopp hailed "unbelievable" Curtis Jones after the teenager settled the Merseyside derby with a stunning goal against Everton.

The city-centre-born Jones curled one off the underside of the crossbar from 25 yards in the 71st minute to help a second string Liverpool side see off the Blues at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

It was Jones' first goal in a senior Reds team as Klopp's side booked their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup at the expense of their local rivals for the second time in three years.

The goal was enough to avoid the prospect of an unwanted replay and preserve an unbeaten Anfield derby record that stretches back to September 1999.

After the game Klopp was keen to share the praise around his young squad with Pedro Chirivella, Neco Williams, Yasser Larouci, Harvey Elliott and Nat Phillips all playing significant parts in the win.

However, the Reds boss couldn't resist talking up the talents of the 18-year-old Jones after the game.

“It was an absolutely sensational goal, I love it," said Klopp.

“Everybody asks me about Curtis Jones, but there were so many good individual performances tonight.

“I don't know why people haven't asked me about Pedro Chirivella, about Neco Williams, about Yasser Larouci. Is this a sign we want to give the boys, that you have to score otherwise we ignore you?

“Let me speak about Curtis. Unbelievable player, Scouser, very confident, can't wait to play in the first team. Rightly so. He is in a very good way, I've known him for three-and-a half years.

“He has made big steps, he will be a Liverpool player if nothing strange happens 100%.

“I'm not surprised he scored that kind of goal. He has still things to learn and improve, but you sometimes forget, and we forget it in training, that he is only 18. Unbelievable.

"In Germany, because of a different system, he would play 100% another year in the youth team and nowhere else. Here, he is around the first team."

Jones, who turns 19 later this month, made his Premier League debut in the 3-0 win over Bournemouth on December 7.
