Jurgen Klopp makes controversial call as he names best player he's signed at Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp has signed more than a few sensational players over the years.

Mohamed Salah set the world alight when he arrived at Liverpool for his second stint in the Premier League, while the inconsistent Sadio Mane has morphed into one of the world's best players since his switch from Southampton.

Klopp has also landed the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Alisson, who have helped turn Liverpool into the European champions they are today.

And, of course, you can't overlook the likes of Andrew Robertson; a left-back, signed from relegated Hull for just £8million, who is now perhaps the best player in the world in his position.

But Klopp doesn't consider any of these signings to be the greatest he's made at Liverpool.

When asked on the Pure Football Podcast, Klopp explained that his best signing wasn't a signing at all, rather a player he promoted from the academy.

"It's Trent [Alexander-Arnold]," Klopp said. "We didn't have to buy him but Pep Lijnders my assistant brought him around and said: 'He played No.6 [role] for me. He played full-back, he played right wing, left wing'.

"Then he came and there was only one problem: Trent was not fit enough.

"But he was a kid so he was not fit enough but we saw immediately, wow, football wise no doubts.

"But [he was] not fit enough so we had to work on that. But then he made steps by himself that were really unbelievable and that was really nice to see.

“Then he made mistakes and didn't give up."
