Jurgen Klopp makes clear Liverpool transfer decision and sends public message to FSG

Jurgen Klopp has made it clear to Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group that he expects the club to conduct plenty of business in the upcoming transfer window.

The Reds are expected to be one of the Premier League's busier clubs this summer after a disappointing 2022/23 campaign, which was wrapped up with an enthralling 4-4 draw against relegated Southampton on Sunday.

Rebuilding Liverpool's midfield is the most pressing priority on Klopp's agenda, but the German also has designs on bolstering other areas of his squad. FSG have been criticised by some fans over the club's reluctance to spend in January - and Klopp is clearly of the opinion that things will be different this summer.

Speaking to Sky Sports immediately after Sunday's game, Klopp said: "These last few weeks gave me a lot of energy. I have holiday now but I'm not ready for it, really, I don't need it if I'm honest.

"Of course we will be busy - for me more on the phone than anything else," he added when the topic of transfers was brought up. "That's kind of work as well but that will be fine, I'm happy to do that, and we will see.

"Six weeks until we can influence the football again, our football again, and only a few of [the players] now have rest. A few have two or three days and they go in different camps with national teams and stuff like that. The most important thing is that they come back healthy, eighth or eleventh of July. Then they arrive and we go from there."

Klopp's bold transfer plan comes just days after reports claiming Liverpool target Alexis Mac Allister's father is jetting into the UK to finalise the midfielder's exit from Brighton.

Mac Allister, 24, has become one of the Premier League's most sought-after players following his exploits for Argentina in their World Cup-winning campaign. The former Boca Juniors ace also played a pivotal role in a history-making season for Brighton, who qualified for Europe for the first time and has been identified as a top summer target by Klopp.

Mac Allister's father, who also acts as the players agent revealed to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato, via Inside Futbol, back in December that he had already fielded calls from prospective suitors. He said "I can only say that together with the club we will analyse the offers we will receive and then we will decide what will happen with Alexis' future.

"He is doing very well in England and is grateful to Brighton as they gave him the chance to come to Europe. However, neither can we provide a price nor can we say who called us. We don’t want to give any information that could prejudice imminent negotiations if any."
