Jurgen Klopp makes blunt admission over Liverpool catching Man City after Leicester defeat

Jurgen Klopp has conceded Liverpool won’t have to worry about trying to catch Man City if they put in many performances like their one against Leicester City on Tuesday night.

Ademola Lookman’s strike saw the Reds suffer a 1-0 defeat to leave them six points behind Pep Guardiola’s side, though that gap could be extended to 12 points by the time they take on Chelsea on Sunday.

Aware that defeat against the Foxes could prove to be a critical blow to his own side’s title hopes, Klopp admitted Liverpool have to focus on themselves as his priority is working out what went wrong against Brendan Rodgers’ men rather than trying to usurp City at the top of the table.

“Chelsea and us play against each other so we cannot both get the points,” he told reporters.

“Sorry for that but it was not our plan tonight to give City the chance to run away or whatever.

“But if we play like tonight, we don’t have to think about catching up with City.

"But if we play our normal football, we can win normal football games.

“We have to see how many points we can get and we will see what that means.

“I don’t have a proper explanation for tonight but to find this explanation is my main concern and not, in this moment, the gap to City.”
