Jurgen Klopp lays out Liverpool's transfer stance amid potential exits at Anfield

Jurgen Klopp has made clear Liverpool WON’T make any more signings in the transfer window...unless players leave first.

The Reds boss argues that his squad is already strong enough to compete at the top of the Premier League - and he doesn’t want to make it any bigger just for the sake of fresh faces.

Liverpool have several players who could be allowed to go this summer, such as Xherdan Shaqiri, Divock Origi, Nat Phillips, Loris Karius and Ben Davies.

But the market is virtually non-existent at the level they would command, with most clubs across Europe looking for loan deals or cut price bargains. And Klopp said he will not move unless he has to.

“You have to make changes from time to time, but then there must be room to do it. We do not want more players. Unless something happens it makes no sense to add more players,” he said.

“Everyone expects some player signings, (but) let’s go through the squad Do you want to buy a new fullback? A new goalkeeper? We already have good players there. In midfield, we have players with a lot of experience.

“In addition, we have exciting young boys in Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones. In attack, Mané, Firmino, Salah, Jota, Shaqiri, Minamino and Origi.

“If you want to buy such players, you have to spend a lot of money. We do not have to do that, because the players are already here.”

While the likes of City, United and Chelsea have splashed the cash, Liverpool have signed just one player this summer, centre half Ibrahima Konate, which gives them depth at the back. But Klopp says he’s still done some important business:

“We have tried to extend contracts with key players in the club, something we are still going to try on.

“Some clubs have a different approach, which is seen from the outside, perhaps more exciting, but extending contracts with good players is a challenge in itself in today’s football.”
