Jurgen Klopp laughs off FSG demand rumours as Liverpool look to target all competitions

Jurgen Klopp has lifted the lid on his relationship with the Liverpool owners, identifying why his philosophy matches with those in charge to create a positive atmosphere.

And he has also laughed off suggestions he has been instructed to prioritise certain competitions at the expense of others.

Klopp is aiming to lead the Reds to their second piece of silverware under his guidance by winning the UEFA Super Cup in Istanbul against Chelsea, building upon last season's Champions League triumph.

The aim this year is to secure further honours, with a fresh assault for Manchester City's Premier League crown and the defence of their European title.

While some fans may have questioned the lack of spending in the summer, Klopp has explained the club's stance and how it matches his own views.

“They create a basis, what they give us we have to use, it’s as simple as that. They are big believers in development and don’t believe you can invest and get it immediately," he told BT Sport.

“I am that person myself, I’ve never had a different situation so maybe I don’t know how to act if somebody throws money at me and says ‘now you can buy whoever you want’.

“We are completely on one page, it’s a great relationship. It’s good, everything is good, we were in a good moment last year and hopefully we can be a good moment as well this year.

“We have to use what our owners give us, they are really generous and they don’t lead the club for money, they lead it because they enjoy it.”

Klopp was also asked about rumours he had been asked to prioritise the Premier League and Champions League over other competitions, such as the FA Cup, which he fiercely denied after delivering a booming laugh.

“Who could have told you that? That’s not true, it’s one of the many stories where there’s absolutely nothing and not even a little bit of truth,” he told BT Sport.
