Jurgen Klopp's reaction to save which justified Alisson's transfer

The nature of the Champions League group stage means the importance of the final game can vary wildly, depending on a team’s qualification status.

The Reds have had the luxury of playing dead rubbers in their final group game in the last two seasons, however there was still everything to play for in their last match in both 2004/05 and 2018/19, campaigns in which they would go on to win the trophy.

The 3-1 win over Olympiakos in 2004 was the more memorable of the two, but the 1-0 win over Napoli three years ago this week was just as important, it certainly was for one player in particular.

Not everybody was convinced Liverpool had made a wise transfer when they set a new world record fee for a goalkeeper by signing Alisson Becker from Roma in 2018.

However, he produced an outstanding point-blank save from Arkadiusz Milik in stoppage time to help the Reds progress to the last-16 this week three years ago.

After the match Jurgen Klopp said: “The save Allison made? I have no words for that,”

Reds linked with Bowen and Raphinha

Liverpool are continuing to monitor West Ham United forward Jarrod Bowen.

However, the The Reds are unlikely to make an official approach during next month’s transfer window.

With the long-term future of Divock Origi the subject of much speculation, the club’s recruitment team are hopeful of signing another attacker before the 2022/23 campaign gets underway.

Bowen remains on their radar after an impressive season for the Hammers so far.

Leeds winger Raphinha is another who club scouts are keeping an eye on, but a move for the Brazilian is unlikely to materialise next month.
