Jurgen Klopp insists Liverpool have 'closed the book' on 2014 title collapse

Jurgen Klopp insists his “amazing” Reds have finally closed the book on the slip that cost the title.

Now he wants them to close out the League by winning their final four matches, to stride towards an incredible 97 point total he hopes will be enough to make them Champions.

Liverpool showed incredible quality AND spirit with a pulsating victory over Chelsea , capped by a wonder goal from Mo Salah the manager admitted: “blew me away.”

But with Manchester City still matching every win stride for side, he said all they can do is keep winning.

“What we did today to win that game was amazing. We tried, created, passed and shot - we did pretty much everything.

Mohamed Salah's four-word response when asked to explain Liverpool goal celebration

“Today was very, very important because Chelsea are so strong. And we just need to play our game. We have to collect as many points as possible. What has we got now, 85? So we can get to 97 let's try.

“Why not. If that's enough, perfect. If not we can't change anything.”

In any other season, 85 points at this stage would be enough to be Champions. Klopp accepts it may still not be good enough...but at least they have exorcised the demons from that fateful Steven Gerrard slip from 2014.

What Jurgen Klopp said in Liverpool changing room at half time to inspire Chelsea win

So much focus was placed on that moment against Chelsea, but now the German coach believes his side have written a far more positive chapter against the London club.

“On this point we can finally close the slipping book. Robbo slipped and nothing happened, ok so it's finished,” he said in reference to a first half moment when full back Andy Robertson stumbled.

It took all of Salah's genius to finally overcome a spirited Chelsea side and go back to the top of the Premier League, and Klopp admitted that he was lost for words when the 20 yard stunner went in to seal the game.

“Salah's goal, it blew me away...I was lost for words. I saw it really good, it was in my line. I was the first person in the stadium to know it was going in. I said as soon as he hit it, the ball will go in, it was an outstanding finish.

“But the first goal by Sadio Mane was an outstanding goal too. Such incredible team-work. Don't want to minimise Mo's goal, a brilliant goal, world-class. But loved the first goal too. It was a brilliant goal in all departments.”

Klopp said that skipper Jordan Henderson was in pain from a knock on the ankle, but it was “nothing serious” and he should be available to face Porto on Wednesday.
