Jurgen Klopp insists its "all good" with Georginio Wijnaldum amid Barcelona links

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has insisted the situation with Georginio Wijnaldum is "all good" despite continued speculation linking the midfielder with Barcelona.

Wijnaldum is out of contract next summer and talks over an extension between player and club are believed to currently be at an impasse.

Goal report Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman wants to add Wijnaldum to his squad though is yet to submit a formal offer.

With Bayern Munich star Thiago Alcantara also rumoured to be on his way to Anfield there is an increased possibility Wijnaldum could opt to see out his deal and leave on a free next year.

But Klopp is seemingly unperturbed.

“That’s an open contract situation, obviously, otherwise we would know,” Klopp said.

“That means we don’t talk about it, that’s all. I never did, so why should I change it now? That’s all between us and the player, and all these kinds of things.

“It’s all good in the moment, it’s all fine. Gini looked very good in the pre-season, played obviously a couple of good seasons for us, so that's all I can say about that.”

Regardless of whether Thiago arrives or not Liverpool will not want to lose Wijnaldum for nothing.

Reports suggest Liverpool have tabled an offer of a three-year extension to the 29-year-old but his representatives are pushing for a longer deal.

Given his age The Reds would rather not tie down Wijnaldum beyond his 33rd birthday which could open the door for Barcelona.

Should Liverpool sell Wijnaldum this summer? Have your say below.

Koeman has worked with Wijnaldum at international level and is keen to take him to the Nou Camp as part of his rebuild at Barcelona.

Klopp would obviously prefer Wijnaldum stayed at Anfield but his contract expiry date puts Liverpool under slight pressure to cut their losses and sell him this summer.

Wijnaldum still has plenty to offer his club though, having made more appearances than any of Liverpool's midfielders last season, and is set for another pivotal role in their first title defence - providing he's still there of course.
