Jurgen Klopp inadvertently hints at how Newcastle can hurt Liverpool in 'different challenge'

Jurgen Klopp is expecting a 'different challenge' from Newcastle United but the Magpies will surely look to follow in Leeds' footsteps by trying to hurt Liverpool from set-pieces.

Liverpool looked to be on course for their fourth successive league win on Monday night after Sadio Mane gave the visitors the lead after the half-hour mark at Elland Road.

However, Leeds caused Liverpool problems from set-pieces and that pressure eventually told late on when Diego Llorente equalised from Jack Harrison's corner.

Leeds had 10 corners and seven free-kicks on the night and Klopp recognised that the champions, who were of course without Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip, Jordan Henderson, Nat Phillips and Curtis Jones, struggled to cope.

"Especially from set-pieces, they had really big chances," he told the club's website after the game. "Ali [Alisson] had to make a lot of good saves. At least two were really good saves.

"But, with the number of set-pieces and the size we had tonight...we didn't have the tallest team. We were in danger there and so they scored the goal and when you're that long 1-0 up, it's quite frustrating when you don't get over the line."

Liverpool have conceded seven goals from set-pieces since Christmas and this will be an obvious area for Newcastle to target at Anfield on Saturday.

Although captain Jamaal Lascelles will be a big miss - the captain scored headers against Wolves and Aston Villa - Matt Ritchie's deliveries have caused Spurs and West Ham problems in recent weeks while Joe Willock has also proved a handful in the air from open play.

At the other end of the field, Klopp already knows his side will have to take their chances against Newcastle after Liverpool spurned a number of opportunities in the reverse fixture at St James' Park in December.

"You can see the intensity the boys put in is really there," Klopp added. "We played a lot of good stuff. We could have played even better tonight in moments - I know that.

"Get a bit more clinical and then we will score goals. Newcastle is a different challenge but we will face it."
