Jurgen Klopp in Ben Davies deflection as question on Celtic target draws guarded transfer quip

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp offered a guarded response when quizzed on a move for Celtic target Ben Davies.

It's understood the Premier League champions are considering a bid for the Preston defender as they look to solve a central defensive crisis.

An offer from the Anfield giants could derail attempts to bring the defender to Celtic.

Klopp deployed Nat Phillips and Jordan Henderson at centre-back for Liverpool 's 3-1 win over West Ham on Sunday but batted away a question over potentially moving for Davies.

"Tottenham... there's a Ben Davies there as well?" the German quipped.

When pressed, Klopp admitted his eyes are "always open" for transfer opportunities.

He continued: "No, I've nothing to say about that. I say it all the time, in our situation it makes sense.

"Nat Phillips had a decent game, Milli and Hendo showed they could play there for the rest of their careers.

"Our eyes are always open and we try to fix our situation. If we can do it? I don't know.

"If not, we play like we did tonight."
