Jurgen Klopp hoping Dejan Lovren will make swift Liverpool return from injury

Liverpool face a nervous wait to learn more about Dejan Lovren’s condition after he was forced off during Tuesday evening’s crucial 2-0 win over Red Bull Salzburg.

The Reds secured their place in the knockout stages of the Champions League as they secured a hard-fought victory at Red Bull Arena courtesy of goals from Naby Keita and Mohamed Salah.

But they were hit with another defensive injury blow early in the second half when Lovren was required to make way for Joe Gomez after signalling his inability to continue.

The Croatian, who was withdrawn during the Reds’ weekend win at Bournemouth with a similar issue before returning for this fixture, was later seen limping through the mixed zone.

Lovren also suggested to reporters that he had suffered a potential hamstring injury.

However, that assessment seemed to contradict the words of Jurgen Klopp, who had seemed upbeat about the defender’s prospects when speaking at his press conference.

The German said: “We hope that it’s exactly the same as last time - he felt something and we made a decision.

“It’s of course not cool but he played really well and was very important for I don’t know how long it was.

“We don’t know more in the moment; it felt similar to last time, that’s it, we have to see.”
