Jurgen Klopp highlights the overlooked VAR aspect that is "not good" for players

Jurgen Klopp has highlighted how VAR means more standing around and is "not good" for players.

Liverpool were forced to wait on two long video assistant referee decisions during their 1-0 victory over Wolves - with Sadio Mane's goal checked for a potential hand ball by Adam Lallana, while the visitor's Neto had a goal chalked off for offside after VAR stepped in.

Many of the obvious and controversial side effects of VAR have been well publicised, but Klopp has made a point of drawing attention to the side effects the potential physical detriment of standing around for long periods.

"We are in December and coming into January," Klopp said. "Players standing around that long waiting is not good. I would prefer if referees going to the screen.

"I think the first situation it would help. But if you think offside, then it takes a while. But with the possible handball it could be quicker. That's how we do it England at the moment. We were on the other side of VAR decisions at Aston Villa. These things happen, nobody likes it."

The Reds extended their unbeaten run in the Premier League to 50 games, while moving 13 points clear at the top of the table.

"It was a tough test and rightly so," Klopp sad. "We play for big stakes, and try to be successful and be as good as possible.

"Wolves are used to a tough rhythm of games. They made some changes. First half we were good and controlled the game, but I can imagine Wolves were not happy with the VAR decisions.

"However, the momentum went with them after that moment. We had nothing to do with the decisions.

"The second half they changed a bit. We were not fresh enough in mind to react. Alisson wanted to make the game quick, and nobody else wants to it to be! Football is like life. Sometimes you are 100% ready and sometimes not. It was a big fight today."
