Jurgen Klopp highlights importance of hidden Liverpool man tracking Rhian Brewster for buy-back

Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster completed his £23.5million move to Sheffield United on Friday.

It's seems like an excellent deal that works for all parties, given that the Reds have an option to buy-back Brewster during any transfer window in the next three years, the Blades got their man and will make significant money should Jurgen Klopp want him back and the player himself is going to get much-wanted and deserved top flight experience leading an elite line.

That Michael Edwards and his fabled transfer committee managed to insert a buy-back option into Brewster's contract is testament to the work they do in the market and now Liverpool will keep a watchful eye on the 20-year-old's development, which is where Loan and Pathways manager Julian Ward comes.

Ward will now keep a watchful eye on Brewster, delivering regular updates to Klopp and Edwards about how the highly-rated frontman is getting on, enabling the club to make the best possible decision when it comes to crunch time around buying him back or allowing him to stay at Bramall Lane and profiting from a 15% sell-on clause instead.

The information Ward sends back to the club will be invaluable and such work is a key reason why Liverpool are so successful in staying ahead of their rivals.

And now, Klopp has expressed just how important someone like Ward is to him and the players who leave Liverpool both on loan and with buy-back clauses inserted into their contract.

"It's a very important role and we work very closely together" the Reds boss explained.

"If you have to go on loan, the best thing that can happen to you is that you have a contract with Liverpool because then Jules is looking after you.

"He travels a lot, he used to when travelling was allowed, and he is in constant contact - the players themselves would say the same, so that's really good on a personal basis.

"On a professional basis, we have to try to make sure before a player goes on loan we try as much as we can just to find the right club - it's very important.

"In Germany, I know more coaches a bit better. I don't know that many here, so it's sometimes a bit tricky for me to make these decisions around the kind of football they play and these types of things.

"Jules is doing an incredible job and that's very helpful for us and for the players as well."
