Jurgen Klopp has his say on Salah contract and Collymore says Liverpool have edge over Chelsea

Your Liverpool morning digest for Tuesday, December 7.

Klopp sends message over Salah contract

Jurgen Klopp has called for patience as the speculation over Mohamed Salah’s future at Liverpool continues to intensify.

The 29-year-old’s contract expires in 2023 and current negotiations over a new deal have met an impasse, however Klopp has dismissed the stalemate as "completely normal" given the status of the Reds’ top scorer.

Salah stated his desire to stay at Anfield in an interview last week and called on the club to rectify the situation.

However, Klopp said that the details of a new deal cannot be concluded swiftly and claims the current situation isn’t something fans need not worry about.

"We're talking and extending a contract with a player like Mo is not something where you meet for a cup of tea in the afternoon and find an agreement," Klopp said ahead of Tuesday's visit to AC Milan in the Champions League. "That's completely normal.

Collymore says Liverpool have mental edge over Chelsea

Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore has given his thoughts on title-chasing Chelsea after they slipped to third in the Premier League following Saturday’s defeat at West Ham.

The Blues are aiming to follow up last season’s Champions League success by winning the league this campaign but face fierce competition from Liverpool and Manchester City.

However, Collymore doesn’t believe Thomas Tuchel’s side have the same mentality as the Reds who won the Champions League and Premier League in successive seasons.

"I remember watching Virgil van Dijk almost on a loop with a deadpan face saying: ‘We’ve achieved nothing yet’," Collymore said.

"There was a humility and a grounded nature about such as Van Dijk, Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold that I’m not seeing and hearing from some Chelsea players."
