Jurgen Klopp hands England boost as Jordan Henderson declared fit for Euros

Jurgen Klopp has insisted Jordan Henderson "will be fine" to play a part for England at Euro 2020 despite failing to play for Liverpool since February.

The Reds' captain was included in the squad for the final day of the season clash with Crystal Palace at Anfield on Sunday but did not make it off the subs' bench.

That is likely to concern England boss Gareth Southgate, who was hopeful of Henderson getting at least some action before joining up with the Three Lions squad if selected.

Southgate is set to announce his 26-man squad on Tuesday, but Klopp has allayed any fears over Henderson's fitness.

"He will be fine," Klopp said on Radio 5 Live. "I don't know if he will be in the squad but he is fine, he trained the last two days with us, he is fine."

The Liverpool boss even suggested Henderson's long injury layoff - due to a groin strain picked up against Everton - could actually be to England's benefit.

"He can return to training as normal," Klopp added. "He will be one of the few players in the squad who are fresh which is good news."

Henderson is expected to be included in Southgate's squad, along with Man Utd captain Harry Maguire, who is currently recovering from an ankle ligament injury.

Speaking to Sky Sports after Liverpool's 2-0 win over Crystal Palace, Henderson said: "I was itching to get on but I've only trained a couple of times with the team so probably not the wisest.

"I feel good. I've been training the last few weeks on my own, but now it's about getting that team training and get fit for the Euros.

Asked if that was his target, he replied: "Yeah, fingers crossed. I know I haven't played for a long time but I've still been working hard in the background doing a lot so I feel good but obviously I've got to go and train hopefully with England and be ready for the Euros."
