Former Liverpool striker Peter Crouch has stated his admiration for Jurgen Klopp 's refusal to spend big money during the summer window.
The Reds were pipped to the Premier League title by a single point last season, but softened the blow by claiming their sixth European triumph with victory over Tottenham in the Champions League final.
Klopp invested in youth this summer bringing Harvey Elliott and Sepp van den Berg to Anfield from Fulham and PEC Zwolle respectively.
Crouch has given his verdict on where each of the 20 Premier League teams will finish this season and believes Liverpool will finish runners-up once again.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, he backed Klopp's philosophy of improving his current squad rather than spending unnecessarily large sums of money.
He said: "There has been a lot of talk around the city this summer about the fact Jurgen Klopp hasn't made any major signings but I don't mind that one bit.
"He doesn't need to spend £30million on someone if they don't fit the bill - so why waste the money? There has been a good arrogance about the European champions.
"Klopp knows he has got a quality team, his players know they will progress again and the competition on the training ground will guarantee improvement. It's the perfect atmosphere to improve in."
Manchester City and Liverpool provided a fantastic title race last season and Crouch believes Klopp's side will capitalise if the domestic champions stutter.
He said: "How they [Liverpool] stayed with Manchester City last season was remarkable. I hope the shootout for the title is another fantastic battle between two teams I love to watch.
"If City falter, Klopp's team will take advantage. They are both so much better than the rest."
Liverpool kick-off the eagerly awaited 2019/20 Premier League season this evening when they welcome newly-promoted Norwich City to Anfield with kick-off at 20.00.
