Jurgen Klopp admits he wanted Liverpool to avoid Manchester City and Chelsea in the Champions League draw.
The Reds have been handed a last eight tie with Real Madrid in a repeat of the 2018 Final.
English sides were more heavily represented than any other nation but were all kept apart.
Chelsea drew Porto while City face Borussia Dortmund.
Klopp admits that teams want to avoid their domestic rivals so was pleased to dodge the Premier League sides.
He told the club's official website : “I think we are all the same: Bayern doesn’t want to play Dortmund, for example, because they are from the same country and for us, it was City and Chelsea.
“If we can avoid as long as possible then you do it, but all the rest, it was clear we would face a tough opponent.”
Liverpool lost to Madrid in the final three years ago, but have since won the competition.
Los Blancos' success over the Reds completed a hat-trick of Champions League triumphs.
Now though the Spanish side are in the midst of a transitional phase following the exit of Cristiano Ronaldo in 2018.
Madrid had failed to reach the quarter-finals in their last two seasons, but Klopp is under no illusions of the task ahead of them.

“With Liverpool now we only faced them once, that’s OK. But, yes, it’s always tough," he added.
"I think it’s the first time I faced them when Cristiano [Ronaldo] is not there; probably maybe the first time since [Gareth] Bale is not there.
"But obviously [Sergio] Ramos is still there, [Raphael] Varane still there, [Toni] Kroos still there, [Luka] Modric still there, Casemiro still there, [Dani] Carvajal still there, [Karim] Benzema still there.
“And a few young prospects, proper players on top of that. Again, I’m really looking forward to it.”
Liverpool will visit Madrid in the first-leg before the Spaniards head to Anfield.
