Jurgen Klopp gives verdict on Trent Alexander-Arnold facing Man City after Liverpool injury blow

Jurgen Klopp admits injured Trent Alexander-Arnold is unlikely to feature in Liverpool's showdown against Manchester City this weekend.

Alexander-Arnold didn't travel with the Reds squad for their Champions League clash in Porto on Tuesday evening after suffering a groin problem during training.

Liverpool had initially been hopeful the problem wasn't serious until further tests revealed the player is facing a spell on the sidelines.

And Klopp believes there is little chance of the right-back being available for Sunday's Anfield clash against champions City, with Alexander-Arnold also expected to be ruled out of England's forthcoming World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Hungary.

"In the press conference yesterday, it was shortly after training and Trent went in a little bit earlier (after training) and it didn't look that serious," said the Reds boss, speaking to BT Sport.

"Then we did a further assessment and in the end it was serious.

"He's out for today (Porto) for sure, he didn't travel with us, and it doesn't look great for the City game as well.

"It's a muscle thing - the adductor. We thought he was just a bit tired after the (Brentford) game but it was more and now we have to deal with that."

James Milner replaced Alexander-Arnold against Porto having deputised for the player when he missed the 3-0 home win over Crystal Palace earlier this month through illness.
