Jurgen Klopp gives verdict on 'difficult' Newcastle United clash after Liverpool title party

Jurgen Klopp admits his Liverpool players must recover from being in "party" mode before travelling to St James' Park for the final day of the season clash against Newcastle United.

The ex-Borussia Dortmund boss guided Liverpool to the title after a 30-year wait on Merseyside, but he has now asked his players to end the campaign on a high.

United, who lost 3-1 in the reverse fixture at Anfield back in September, can't finish any higher than 13th place but could slump to 14th if they lose and Crystal Palace beat Tottenham Hotspur at Selhurst Park.

Klopp, speaking after Liverpool were handed the Premier League trophy at Anfield, said: "Now we have a party, then we have to recover, then we play Newcastle.

"We have 96 points and it would obviously be really nice if we could get 99.

"It will be difficult but who cares – it was very difficult (on Wednesday) because Chelsea was so good and the boys did it anyway."

Premier League teams will have a break after Sunday but preparations for the new season will begin in August with the traditional closed season period now ditched to get the 2020/21 campaign up and running.

Klopp added: "We have another game in three days then a few days off then we start again.

"We will be ready."
