The Brazilian picked up the problem during a training session ahead of the trip to Villa Park, where Adrian inste
Alisson, who missed two months early on last season with a calf problem, will undergo further tests on Monday.
But Klopp admits Liverpool are likely to be without their first-choice goalkeeper for a significant period – with Alisson almost certain to sit out the Merseyside derby at Goodison on October 17 and the Champions League group opener against Ajax in Amsterdam four days later.
“Yesterday an incident in training, very unlucky – two players clash with each other, one gets up, one doesn’t,” said the Reds boss. “The one who didn’t get up was Ali.
“So, after the first few things, we don’t know 100%. But he cannot play today.
“We have to do further assessment; but he’s injured, let me say it like this. Now we hope it will go really quickly.
“It’s an international break, I’m pretty sure after that he will not be ready. Then we have to see week by week.”
Adrian started nine Premier League games last season and came on as substitute twice, the second after Alisson had been red-carded against Brighton and Hove Albion.
With Loris Karius and Kamil Grabara on loan and Andy Lonergan having left in the summer, 21-year-old Irish goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher was on the bench at Villa Park.
