Jurgen Klopp gets favour from former Liverpool man as Reds handed title advantage

Ex-Liverpool attacker Danny Ings scored the winner for Southampton against Leicester to extend his rich vein of goalscoring form and hand his former side a massive advantage in the title race.

Ings’ strike in the 81st minute was enough to separate the two sides as he netted his 14th strike so far this season.

The game ended 2-1 with what looked like a late Jonny Evans equalizer ultimately ruled out just minutes from time in a dramatic end to proceedings at the King Power Stadium.

Ings’ form has been integral to Southampton’s revival following a poor start to the season which included the infamous 9-1 defeat in the reverse fixture against Brendan Rodgers’ Foxes outfit at St Mary’s.

The one-time England international trails only Jamie Vardy in the race for the golden boot with the 33-year-old, who leads the way having scored 17 goals in 20 appearances so far this campaign.

The surprise away win will be music to the ears of Liverpool fans as the Anfield side edge ever-closer to a maiden Premier League title.

Leicester now trail leaders Liverpool by 13 points following the defeat at the hands of Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side with the Reds also having two games in hand.
