Jurgen Klopp explains Xherdan Shaqiri situation as midfielder not in Liverpool squad

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has explained why Xherdan Shaqiri has missed out on the matchday squad against Wolves today.

Klopp says the Swiss star "would have started" but it has been confirmed he is unavailable due to injury.

The Reds have made just one change from the side that beat Leicester City 4-0, with Naby Keita dropping to the bench as Adam Lallana makes the starting line-up.

Klopp told Sky Sports: "We thought of course about it [making more changes] but it was, for different reasons, not really possible.

“Maybe one more change would have been possible. Shaq would have started today but he’s not available and so that’s the line-up. So, all good.

“Yes it’s intense for everybody, but we’ve known that for ages so we have to fight.”

Shaqiri has picked up a "slight muscle strain" which has kept him out of action today.

Academy trio Harvey Elliott, Neco Williams and Curtis Jones have all been named among the subtitutes.

Liverpool: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Henderson, Wijnaldum, Lallana; Salah, Mane, Firmino.

Subs: Adrian, Milner, Keita, Origi, Jones, Elliott, Williams.
