Jurgen Klopp explains why he's "excited" by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Man Utd

Jurgen Klopp is pleased to see the Premier League so competitive and "exciting" with Manchester United contributing to a gripping title race.

The Premier League has been a procession in recent years with Manchester City and Liverpool both winning it at a canter.

The two sides were involved in a titanic tussle two years ago, but were unchallenged by the rest of the league.

Now though there are several clubs aiming for the top with just six points separating the top six.

United are currently top of the pile and can extend their lead should they beat Liverpool on Sunday.

Klopp has named several sides who are in contention and insists it would be dull were one side to pull away from the rest.

He said: “It must be exciting and interesting, it would be boring if one team was so dominant. Like in the ‘90s, and early 2000s with United and earlier with Liverpool obviously.

"I was a little bit afraid that Man City would be something like that (dominating) and obviously could still be.

"But it’s important that somebody has stepped in and showed that there are different ways to play and you can be successful.

"It gave all of us a chance to try again and that’s of course what’s happening this year. So many teams can be champions - United are three points ahead, can be six points.

"Don’t forget, City have a game in hand and can be one point behind United and all this kind of stuff. Chelsea are not a finished article, and Tottenham are doing well.”

Liverpool's poor form has opened the door for their rivals with Klopp seeing his side pick up just two points over the festive period.

The Reds have already dropped more points this year than they did last term as they aim to become just the second side in a decade to retain their crown.
