Jurgen Klopp explains why he dropped Liverpool's 'irreplaceable' player against Newcastle

Jurgen Klopp has explained his one change to the Liverpool team to face Newcastle.

The Reds take on the Magpies in the Premier League with the hope of climbing into the top four with a win.

Klopp’s side are currently two points adrift of the top four places with six league matches left to play this season, with Chelsea occupying fourth spot.

Klopp made one change to the team that were held to a 1-1 draw with Leeds United on Monday night.

James Milner is dropped from the team and replaced by Mohamed Salah, with Klopp going with a different formation.

The change sees Salah link up with Diogo Jota, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino all in the same team.

Speaking to BT Sport before kick-off, Klopp explained why he decided to take Milner out of the team, labelling the 35-year-old as “irreplaceable”.

Klopp said: “Milner has played a lot of games, he’s pretty much irreplaceable to be honest. Maybe today not from the beginning, but that’s the only change.

“Hopefully the rest show us good football."
