Jurgen Klopp explains why fit-again Alisson must wait for Liverpool comeback

Alisson is fit and desperate to return for Liverpool - but Jurgen Klopp has told the keeper he must wait to play.

The Reds boss was in jovial mood as he explained he’s been given two differing opinions on when the Brazilian should return to first team action, following a calf tear.

One comes from his medical team, who have urged caution over a “serious” injury that has kept him out for six weeks.

The other comes from the player himself. He has trained for the past three weeks, returning to full first team sessions in recent days…and understandably, he is raring to go.

“There are two opinions. One is Ali’s opinion and the other is the medical department!” Klopp said with a smile.

“We have to wait, I think, so we have to see. Training is going really well but it was a serious injury and we don’t want to take a chance. Against Salzburg, no chance.”

Alisson begs to differ, he wants to play after missing out on Liverpool unbeaten run this season, with the only blemish coming in the first round of Champions League group games, when Napoli defeated the Reds 2-0.

But Klopp wants him to wait, especially given that his deputy Adrian has performed so well in his absence.

The Liverpool boss though, admits that he won’t be able to resist for much longer, which could see the Brazil number one return as early as the weekend.

“We have to see for Leicester (on Saturday). United game (Oct 20), probably 100 percent.”

Klopp also revealed that both Joel Matip and Xherdan Shaqiri have been ruled out of the Champions League game with Salzburg.

Matip picked up a knock at Sheffield United last weekend, and will be rested. “Both not available,” the manager explained.

"I don’t know how it looks in the moment with Joel. It is not a big one but it is big enough. We don’t want to take any risks, and we don’t have to. I don’t know for the weekend.”
