Jurgen Klopp explains why Divock Origi starts against Porto in the Champions League

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has explained his decision to give Divock Origi a start against Porto in the Champions League.

The Reds manager has made three changes from the team that beat Chelsea 2-0 at the weekend.

Origi comes in for Roberto Firmino, with James Milner and Gini Wijnaldum replacing Naby Keita and Jordan Henderson.

Mohamed Salah's agent responds to Liverpool transfer speculation with perfect message

Explaining the Origi decision, the boss said it was down to freshness and recent performances - and nothing to do with any issue with Firmino.

Speaking to BT Sport, Klopp said: “No issue, actually – just respecting the fantastic form Divock Origi is in for weeks or months already, and bringing in fresh legs.

“That’s all, the same we do in midfield because we expect a very intense game, we expect a hard-fighting Porto side. So we need to be ready for that.

Porto expert explains why Champions League second leg will be very different for Liverpool

“Of course Bobby is ready for that but because he never gives himself a rest, from time to time we have to do it.

"But it’s not a rest actually, it’s bringing in Div and having that option: speed and all that stuff. That’s what we thought.”

Liverpool are 2-0 up from the first leg at Anfield - and will set up a semi-final against Barcelona if they get the job done in Portugal tonight.
