Jurgen Klopp explains why Adam Lallana probably won't play for Liverpool again

Adam Lallana has made a legendary contribution to Liverpool’s title triumph…even if he won’t get a final game to recognise that status.

That is the verdict from manager Jurgen Klopp, who has confirmed the England international will only play again for the Reds if there is a major injury crisis during the final five games of the season.

The midfielder has been linked with the likes of Leicester and Spurs, and Klopp said they will not risk the player’s future move, even if it means he leaves without a send off.

“He is one of the most influential players on the training quality I have ever had in my life. He is an incredible professional," said Klopp.

“So he is one of the most important players of the time since I am here, and I wish him only the best for the future.

“From my point of view he is already a legend here, so he can become a legend somewhere else from next season.”

Lallana agreed a short-term extension to see out the title campaign with the Reds, but Klopp revealed that was only to provide emergency cover.

And he said the club would respect his situation, where injury could jeopardise any future deal.

“He trains 100 per cent but as long as we don’t need it, he will just train. That is the normal thing,” he added.

“It was clear Adam would extend his contract and he wants to do that as well, but he will not put any risk on his future. That is absolutely clear.

“It is a difficult situation, but I will respect Adam a lot.

"The future is his future. And if we need his help on the pitch we can get it. He is there. He is still with us but I miss him already.”
