Jurgen Klopp has admitted that he doesn’t have ‘all the power’ when it comes to Liverpool’s transfer activity.
Club owners FSG are currently searching for new investors at Anfield, and have repeatedly faced criticism for their restricted investment in the Reds’ playing squad in recent years. It is believed part of their reasoning behind such a decision is the fact that they are now unable to compete with the riches of Man City and Newcastle United.
Klopp was asked about the Magpies’ transfer model in particular, after they were taken over by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund in October 2021, ahead of Liverpool’s trip to St. James’ Park this weekend.

But rather than bemoan his own club’s lacking of financial backing in comparison, the German insisted the Reds’ own model isn’t too dissimilar, before explaining how he prefers to strengthen his own squad.
“In the moment you recognise what they are doing. I have no idea how they should do it,” Klopp told reporters at his pre-match press conference. “What did I do different?
“The only difference is where the money is coming from. The rest is similar. Not exactly, but it was not that we did six players in, eight out and we go again. I think you have to do it step-by-step.
“But if one of your bosses tells you, ‘We do it now,’ and brings in 12 players at once, you have to deal with that.
“We have a lot of power in the manager’s chair but not all the power. We have to do what other people are telling us.”
