Jurgen Klopp explains reasons why Divock Origi is proving a challenge to Liverpool's attack

Jurgen Klopp has hailed the importance of Divock Origi's resurgence ahead of Liverpool's crunch Premier League clash at Southampton.

The Belgian striker found himself out of favour earlier in the season and didn't make an appearance until November.

However, since coming off the bench to score a dramatic late winner against Everton in December he has proved his worth to the Reds.

F**cked, s**t and scared - What Man City's Pep Guardiola has said about Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp

Origi, who has been preferred to both Xherdan Shaqiri and Daniel Sturridge as an impact sub in recent weeks, has made the most of the opportunities which have come his way.

Klopp says he's been rewarded for his attitude and application at Melwood after a tough period in his career.

“Div is doing well, really well in training,” Klopp said.

“You're right that he didn't have the best time as a football player or as a human being, not being involved much and all that stuff.

“For sure he felt the impact of that for a while but then he came out of it. For a long time now, he's really trained on a high level.

The staggering amount Liverpool paid agents over the last two transfer windows revealed

“If we have the opportunity to play 11 v 11 and Div is in the other team then he's a proper challenge to deal with.

“He can play two positions at least which is good. For us, it's very important to keep the speed on the wing. His size is also important for defensive set-pieces.

“All credit to Div, he has done really well and it's absolutely deserved. Not one second that he's been given has been a present this season.”
