Jurgen Klopp explains Liverpool team selection at Newcastle as Mohamed Salah and co miss out

Liverpool have named a much-changed side to face Newcastle United in the Premier League this afternoon, with Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane all among the substitutes.

Takumi Minamino starts as the number nine with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Divock Origi alongside him. James Milner comes into the midfield, while Neco Williams is in ahead of Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back.

And Jurgen Klopp says 'fresh legs' and 'desire' are the reason why.

He told Liverpool's matchday centre: "It was another intense week for us for different reasons.

"I really want to have today natural desire. The boys who are not starting today have desire as well obviously but they showed that all the time.

"This is now the moment where we should use the quality of the whole squad. I'm really looking forward to seeing the match."

Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren are both excluded from the squad as they close in on moves to Brighton and Zenit St Petersburg respectively.
