Jurgen Klopp explains Jordan Henderson absence as Liverpool captain suffers injury blow

Jordan Henderson has handed Liverpool a fresh blow as the Jurgen Klopp’s injury woes continue.

Henderson has been ruled out of tonight’s Premier League visit of Burnley with a muscle strain.

The Reds skipper, who played at centre-back in the weekend’s goalless draw at home to Manchester United, has picked up a suspected groin problem.

Klopp at least can call upon Joel Matip with the Cameroonian back in defence after missing the last four games with an adductor complaint.

But Liverpool will hope Henderson isn’t facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines as they play a second of seven games in 22 days.

“Hendo felt a little bit,” said Klopp. “It is not serious but he couldn’t make it for tonight.”

It continues the Reds’ injury nightmare in central defence, with Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez recovering from long-term serious knee problems.

Liverpool will move once again to within three points of leaders Manchester United if they end a four-game run without a Premier League victory this evening.
