Jurgen Klopp explains decision he's made over Divock Origi's Liverpool future

Divock Origi has been assured of an Anfield future with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp saying: “He’s back on our landscape.”

The 24-year-old Belgian striker is set for a new deal this summer after his late season scoring exploits to keep Liverpool in the hunt for a Premier League and Champions League double.

Origi grabbed a vital winner at Newcastle to send the title race with Manchester City to final game on Sunday, and his brilliant brace against Barcelona put Klopp’s stars into a second successive Champions League final next month against Tottenham .

With Roberto Firmino struggling for fitness Origi could start against Wolves at Anfield on Sunday, with Liverpool hoping City slip-up at Brighton .

Says Klopp: “When you think about how much he was not playing, maybe you think that I don’t like the player that much or I don’t trust him too much.

“But that is actually not right. It is difficult to come in a team when you have Salah, Mane and Firmino. That is one thing.

“Then he was injured and you cannot be the same player when you have a bit of pain in each step.

“But then showing up the way he did, it’s been Divock Origi week!

“His winner against Barcelona shows what confidence can do and how important it was in this moment as he didn’t think about it. That is brilliant."

Origi scored Liverpool's fourth against Barcelona straight from a cheeky corner by Trent Alexander Arnold.

Klopp said: “What Trent Alexander Arnold did was one of the most genius moments I will ever see in football as long as I am alive.

“But that was not an easy ball for Divock. It was the opposite of an easy ball. It was bouncing and nine times out of ten, the ball would end up in the stand. This one ended up in the net – a brilliant goal.

“Divock was just so unlucky and I’m very happy that he is there again and he is really back on the landscape. It’s important for us and important for his development, so it’s all fine.”
