Jurgen Klopp equals two Liverpool records in the Premier League with Southampton win

Liverpool continued their 100 per cent start to the season with a 2-1 victory over Southampton at St. Mary's on Saturday afternoon - but that wasn't their only achievement.

Goals in each half from Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino put the Reds in control only for Danny Ings to set up a tense finale after he pounced on an error from Adrian eight minutes from time.

However, Klopp's men held on for the victory which sees them top the Premier League table at the end of play on Saturday.

This was the icing on the cake after a day where both the manager and the club have hit new heights with records for points and games won.

After their win on the south coast, Liverpool have won 11 consecutive Premier League games. This equals their best-ever winning streak in the league.

The previous record was set by Brendan Rodgers between February and April 2014 and his successor, Klopp, today surpassed another milestone established by club legend Kenny Dalglish .

He has collected 300 points from 146 games since taking charge of the Reds in 2015, while Dalglish took 150 games to reach the same total, according to GOAL .

If that wasn't enough, Liverpool have succeeded in winning their first two matches of the Premier League season in back-to-back campaigns for only the third time - they did so in 1993-94 and 1994-95.

It has been a hectic start to the season for Liverpool who played Manchester City in the Community Shield at Wembley before kicking off the Premier League against newly-promoted Norwich City last Friday.

This preceded a return to Istanbul, the scene of their 2005 Champions League triumph, where they enjoyed further success by defeating Chelsea on penalties in the Super Cup on Wednesday.

Next, they will host second-placed Arsenal at Anfield next Saturday 24th August where they will be looking to extend their winning run to 12 league matches.
