Jurgen Klopp drops hint over Liverpool’s Thiago replacement after injury blow

Thiago Alcantara’s injury has left Jurgen Klopp with limited options in midfield.

The Spanish international limped off during the 2-2 draw with Fulham last weekend and it has now been confirmed the hamstring problem will rule him out for between four and six weeks.

Both Curtis Jones and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are also out of action, while Naby Keita missed the trip to Craven Cottage, although he is expected to be back in action for Monday’s meeting with Crystal Palace.

With Klopp suggesting making a move in the transfer market during what remains of the summer window is unlikely, the Liverpool boss hinted Harvey Elliott could be handed a starting role at Anfield.

The former Fulham youngster enjoyed a breakthrough campaign last season before suffering a horrific injury away at Leeds in September but now looks set for another big season.

Handed a new contract earlier this week, Klopp has backed Elliott to impress in Thiago’s absence.

"Yes he is a fantastic boy and a super player,” said the German when asked of the teenager’s staring chances.

“He had a good pre-season and is always in contention to start."
