Jurgen Klopp drops hint on Xherdan Shaqiri's future at Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp has all but confirmed Liverpool are looking to sell Xherdan Shaqiri.

The Switzerland international, who has fallen down the pecking order at Anfield, was expected to feature for the Reds against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup.

But Shaqiri played no part in Thursday's defeat at Anfield, with Klopp later suggesting the midfielder was working on a transfer away from the club at the same time.

"Some were not involved," said Klopp. "It is the time of the year when some things happen in the background and you have to react - that is what we did."

Shaqiri has made just one appearances for the Reds so far this season in their 7-2 victory over Lincoln City in the Carabao Cup.

This follows the former Stoke star playing just eight times in all competitions for Liverpool last season, as the Reds clinched a first Premier League title.

Shaqiri has been criticised for playing such a small role in Liverpool's success, with a coach in his home country of Switzerland claiming he's "not a champion".

Arno Rossini harshly told Tio: "Xherdan is not a champion. We certainly cannot say that he left his mark with the teams with which he won. Not with the big guys at least.

"He was the protagonist in Basel, certainly not at Bayern or Liverpool."
