Jurgen Klopp dismisses Bobby Duncan agent claims as Liverpool boss discusses what's next for youngster

Jurgen Klopp has dismissed suggestions Liverpool don't look after their young players after criticism from Bobby Duncan's representative.

And the Reds boss has highlighted the importance of patience for up-and-coming talent during the fledgling stages of their careers.

Among several accusations made by Duncan's agent Saif Rubie on Wednesday afternoon was that the player has allegedly been mistreated by the club.

Liverpool responded with a statement regarding the “inaccurate speculation” and “unfounded allegations”.

And while Klopp refused to go into specifics, he underlined the care the club give their youngsters.

“The situation is really difficult because to speak about it as a not-native speaker it is really important each word of this is the right one,” said the Reds boss.

“What I can say is Bobby is one of our young players we really, really care about. Really, really care.

“Not only young players but all players in football sometimes contract things can not be a massive problem because there are bigger problems in life but can be a problem because it is whether to extend or not extend.

“It is all age groups, all the same, and it is a normal thing but with young players we are particularly sensitive.

“We need to do the right things, all the different parties, and everything will be fine. It is not about having any quick lines from the manager. We are in this situation and that's all I can say about it.”

Duncan scored 32 goals last season as a regular for the under-18s and helped Liverpool win the FA Youth Cup by beating former club Manchester City, from whom he joined the Reds last summer.

The 18-year-old has been part of the U23 set-up this campaign having featured regularly for the first team during pre-season, scoring in the win at Tranmere Rovers last month.

And Klopp added: “One general thing is, and it is really nothing to do with the Bobby Duncan thing, but all the young players have all the benefits.

“You can talk about the skilled young players which are around Liverpool, Man City, Man United – wow.

“The big problem they could have is they lose patience because life is like this.

“You have to make it step-by-step. If you are not Lionel Messi at 17 ready to play for Barcelona you don't see that very often.

“It is possible but mostly it is really about patience. Patience in the right way, in a football way.

“Not waiting for things, being ready for making all the steps you need to do: training hard, playing at the next level, doing what the coach is telling you and everything is fine.

“I don't 'feel' (anything) about it. They are all individuals. Young players are individuals like old players. I don't have a general opinion about them, I treat them, if I face them, as individuals."
